Strictly Scouting

Wooohooo!

Five year old is going to be a Beaver!

He turns 6 at the end of next week, and we just got the phone call, he starts Beavers the same week.

After all the fun daughter and I have had in Guiding over the last 5 years, can't wait for son to join the Scouts!

I guess there will be a lot to learn about the Scout way of doing things rather than the Guide way.

Here, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are pretty different, so it will be interesting to learn about the differences you encounter.

I think the Scout Leaders uniform is rather sexy, hope you don't defect!

My Brown Owl regularly disagrees with her sons cub leader - so I'm not sure the Guiding and Scouting ethos' are running quite in parallel!!!!!

But you have to give them extra points for having such a great Chief Scout!

Hope your son enjoys it x

That'll be cool! I just heard from my YL that the Scouts are all horrible as they were taking the micky out of the Guides at the big camp thing at Auchengillan. When pressed she revealed that this was during the song 'You cannae get to Heaven' (which was You'll never get to heaven in Southland when I was a kid) - a verse that went: "oh you cannae get to heaven, on a fat Girl Guide".... only she can't remember how the verse ended. I think therefore she can't have been that offended.

TopChamp - I have such happy memories of Auchengillan, going up with my brothers' cub and scout units for fireworks on November 5...

Topchamp: the ending is "because the pearly gates aren't that wide" and we sing it on camp regularly - no PC at our camps!

Well you know my feelings on this one :-)and do ask if you need to know anything and think I can help.

Beavers are fab and I hope he will love being part of a colony. You can have fun doing some of the badges at home with him and the staged ones will count when he is a Cub and Scout.

We are running a camp with 62 Beavers and their parents in a few weeks not to mention the leader’s children of Brownie/Cub/Scout and Guide age.Should be fun.

Scouting and Guiding are not so different. A few different ways and a few different words but both enhance and enrich the lives of those who take part.
